Don’t Know Which Book to Start With? Try These Suggested Reading Orders!
I’ve had several requests for a suggested reading order for the More in Heaven and Earth series. In some ways, this is difficult, as many of the books have different lead characters and take place in any number of locations, so you can start wherever you’d like, but here’s my closest suggestions.
Paranormal Books:
(These books tend to focus more on humor, and, while they will have magic, witches and magic are not their main focus. With the exception of Protecting the Dead, they’re all books which eventually involve Supernatural Oversight, as well):
Unearthly Remains
Protecting the Dead
Cursed in White
Children of the Gods
Magic Books:
(With the exception of Sorcerers, Spirits, and Ships and Pride, Prejudice & Penguins, these books are not as humor-focused, although they will have a good deal of humor, too. They also don’t tend to have as many paranormal creatures in them, and they all involve the Magical Council in some way):
Moonlight, Magnolias, and Magic
A Wild Conversion
Sorcerers, Spirits, and Ships (although Sorcerers, Spirits, and Ships could be read directly after Moonlight, Magnolias, and Magic, as they have the same main characters in both)
Pride, Prejudice & Penguins
Recurring Characters and Where to Find Them:
If there are particular characters you like, as well, here’s a guide to where you can find them again (some are mentioned in other places, as well, but if they have at least a speaking part, they’re listed below):
Sgt. Marilyn Jaye–Unearthly Remains, “Things to Do at the British Museum When You’re Dead,” Cursed in White, “Vampire Wedding” (available in the More in Heaven and Earth Box Set 2), Children of the Gods
Det. Erick Lawrence–Unearthly Remains, “Things to Do at the British Museum When You’re Dead,” Cursed in White, Children of the Gods
Henry Howler–Unearthly Remains, Cursed in White, Children of the Gods
The Lady–Protecting the Dead and Children of the Gods (although occasionally mentioned elsewhere)
Annabella LeCanard–Moonlight, Magnolias, and Magic, “How to Succeed at a Job Interview When You’re Hallucinating Pixies” (available in the More in Heaven and Earth Box Set 1), Sorcerers, Spirits, and Ships, and Pride, Prejudice, & Penguins
Armand LeRoy–Moonlight, Magnolias, and Magic and Sorcerers, Spirits, and Ships
Tillie Patel and Errol–Moonlight, Magnolias, and Magic, “How to Succeed at a Job Interview When You’re Hallucinating Pixies” (available in the More in Heaven and Earth Box Set 1), A Wild Conversion, Sorcerers, Spirits, and Ships, and Pride, Prejudice & Penguins
Hubert and Brutus–Moonlight, Magnolias, and Magic and Sorcerers, Spirits, and Ships
Carrie Summerland, Evan Brendan, and Pyewacket (along with their many vampire friends)–Cursed in White, “Vampire Wedding” (available in the More in Heaven and Earth Box Set 2), and Children of the Gods
Interviews With My Characters
Bio
Writer of the Quirkily Paranormal, Lover of Weird
Having grown up surrounded by a house and town so gothic that she doesn’t bother to tell the stories, because nobody would believe them, Katherine Gilbert enjoys spinning tales of far friendlier paranormal beings. When she’s not either writing or teaching at a South Carolina college, she’s plotting her next adventure with her sister, so they can get together and cackle over having outrun most of their past.
My Favorite Things
(In no particular order and leaving out several):
- –Weird Travels (graveyards, haunted houses and historic sites, other places with the odd and strange)
- –Halloween (especially when there are creative displays to be seen)
- –Great Love Stories (especially involving true, deep respect and friendship)
- –Cats
- –Comic Fantasy
